In the Mid 90’s the late Labib Madanat established the first notions for CAMA. He was able to start the
registration process of what would become the development hand of the Alliance Church. Since 2004
Compassion and
Mercy Associates has engaged in various community development projects across the different parts of the
West Bank
including Jerusalem. During those years, CAMA managed to establish its first base outside of Jerusalem;
in the
village of Salfit North of the West Bank. The project included a community centre for youth and women.
In this
very remote part of the West Bank, CAMA managed to bring hope and life to a place that was struck by
political
struggles, poverty, and hardships. This was possible through generous support from PMU, the Swedish
Pentecostal
Churches’ aid organization. The project lasted for more than 10 years and was then managed by the
community on the
ground.
Since 2015 our work became more focused on the old city of Jerusalem. With the high unemployment rate
and the
scarcity of activities for youth and children, CAMA performed its programs to include a variety of
initiatives for
children, women, and youth. For more than a decade, CAMA has succeeded in broadening its scope,
utilizing more of
its human and material resources to provide greater and more strategic services to the larger population
within
the society.
